Last week was my first time ever doing work experience. I did my work experience in RTE on a radio play called "The Bacon Slicer" written by Andrew Fox. This radio play was part of the Dublin theatre festival. I expected to just be treated as a student and that I would just stand in the background taking notes, but I was instantly welcomed as proper backstage worker! |
There was a reading of the play being performed live in studio 1. Everything had to be produced live on stage along with music, so there was a lot of props to be moved around, including a toilet.
One of the best parts of the experience was that as I was involved with the drama department in RTE. I also had free reign of any food I wanted in the canteen. The RTE canteen is amazing and for lunch I had turkey and roast potatoes.
My favourite part of the experience was that I was really a part of the production and met with the cast and crew at the same times they were meeting and I worked when they worked.
On the sunday (The last day), I went in for eleven and left at half ten at night. This was the day of the show and I got to work as an usher. We also had to prepare a radio studio to hold one hundred and fifty eight people, so sunday was a lot of work. It was all worth it in the end and overall I really enjoyed my work experience on "The Bacon Slicer" and learnt a lot.
